History of Chopard
The beginnings
Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, a watchmaker from Geneva. Louis-Ulysse Chopard had started his watchmaking career at Joseph Girard Jürgensen’s salon in Geneva, but he soon decided to open his own workshop in the city. After working for some time as a general watchmaker, he developed a passion for the accurate construction of pocket watches and decided to focus exclusively on the production of accurized timepieces.
Growth and Expansion
In 1937, Chopard moved to the Swiss watchmaking hub of La-Chaux-de-Fonds and subsequently opened a workshop in Geneva. This expansion enabled Chopard to combine the most advanced techniques they had developed during their earlier residence in Geneva with their assembling and control techniques that had been refined during their residency in La-Chaux-de-Fonds.
