What is Heineken?
Heineken is a Dutch beer company that was founded in the year 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken. It is one of the world’s most widely-recognized beer companies, known for its iconic green branding, which has become a household name in most parts of the world. Heineken’s steady commitment to quality and flavor has helped the beer stay a favorite among many generations of beer drinkers.
History of Heineken
When Gerard Heineken opened his first brewery which went on to become Heineken, it was one of only two active breweries in Amsterdam. After his death in 1893, his son, Henry Pierre Heineken, took over the business and started introducing new beer styles such as Heineken A-Type and Heineken Bock, which remain among its signature products today.
In 1933, Heineken Brouwerijen opened a second brewery in Zoeterwoude and purchase of several smaller breweries followed, allowing Heineken to become one of the biggest and most influential breweries in the Netherlands.
Heineken goes Global
In the 1970s, Heineken began expanding into international territories, beginning with Japan, then Australia and Africa. In the years that followed, Heineken opened breweries in countries across Europe and Asia. Today, Heineken operates over 100 breweries in more than 70 countries around the world.
In addition to its brewed beer, Heineken also sells other popular alcoholic beverages, such as Heineken 0.0 (zero alcohol) and Somersby Cider.
Heineken’s Trademarks and Brand Values
Heineken’s iconic green branding and cheery, swooshy font have become established worldwide. The company also has a logo registered as an official trademark in several countries. With its famous “Heineken Experience” packaging and advertising, Heineken has become a committed leader in the global alcohol market.
Furthermore, Heineken values acceptability, flavor and quality. Despite the fact that the beer is popular around the world, Heineken is still dedicated to its traditional product, ingredients and brewing process. The beer is known to be one of the best tasting beers in the world, and its stand-out characteristics are attributed to the selection of raw materials and traditional brewing techniques used by Heineken brewers.
